How the teams are picked
- Players marked as keepers go first, one to each team, strongest keeper first. If you mark more keepers than you have teams, the spare keepers are picked with everyone else.
- Everyone else is sorted by skill rating, strongest first. Players on the same rating are shuffled, so each pick can come out differently.
- The teams take turns to pick, and the order reverses every round. This is a snake draft: the team that picks first in one round picks last in the next, so no team collects all the strongest players.
- Team sizes never differ by more than one. When the numbers don't divide evenly, some teams get one extra player.
If you leave every rating on 3, the teams are random apart from spreading the keepers. Copied teams list names and keepers only, never ratings.
Tips for fairer teams
- Rate people on how they play in this game, not on their best level. A 3 is an average player for your group.
- Use the full range. If everyone is a 3 or a 4, the ratings can't do much.
- If the same side wins every week, move a few ratings up or down by one rather than starting again.
- Only tick keeper for people who will actually play there. If your group rotates in goal, leave it off for everyone.

Does the team picker work for any sport?
Yes. It splits any list of names into 2 to 8 teams, so it works for 5-a-side, netball, hockey, basketball or a training game. The keeper option is for sports with a goalkeeper or wicketkeeper. Leave it unticked if you don't need it.
Is my list saved?
Only in this browser on this device, so it is ready for next week. Nothing is sent to Squadable. Clear list removes it.
Why does Shuffle again give different teams?
Players on the same rating are shuffled before every pick, and so is the order of the teams, so you get a new split that is balanced in the same way. If everyone is on the same rating, the teams are random apart from spreading the keepers.
Do I need an account?
No. The team picker is free to use with no sign-up and no limit on how often you use it.
